Let’s Talk About Race is a production of Grassroot News NW and KBOO Community Radio. The production won three 2022 Hometown Media Awards from the Alliance for Community Media Foundation, ‘Best Podcast’ from the Bright International Film Festival in London, ‘Outstanding Achievement’ from the Swedish International Film Festival, and ‘Honorable Mention’ from the Amsterdam International Film Festival.


PORTLAND, OREGON ─  The radio show and podcast, Let’s Talk About Race’s episode, “Another Racial Reckoning in America-STOP AAPI HATE,” has received three 2022 Hometown Media Awards from the Alliance for Community Media Foundation, for Informational Talk Show- Single Episode, Documentary Community Radio and Racial Justice and Civil Rights Programming.

Let’s Talk About Race (LTAR), is a national and international award-winning intergenerational roundtable discussion of independent journalists from around the country. It  features rigorous analysis of news coverage, and the role race plays in politics, life and society and  is available on Pacifica Radio Network, Soundcloud, Apple Podcast, and PRX. It currently airs twice monthly on KBOO Community Radio in Portland, Oregon.

The roundtable lineup features LaNita Duke, award-winning multimedia producer for Grassroots News NW;  Dianne Johnson, a professor and journalist from Texas;  Althea Billings, a journalist and radio producer in Portland; the Rev. Cecil Prescod, a talk show host in Portland; Nia Gray, host of The Faith Report in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Michelle Melton from Georgia and Mary Li, a reporter from Portland.

Each year, thousands of entries are submitted to various podcast and radio competitions. These entries, or programs, are submitted and evaluated by a panel of judges from the industry. Awards are presented to the most creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial formats and move listeners to experience radio/podcasting and the topics it addresses in a creative, informative way.
