A child care subsidy program is ramping up to include more families across King County to increase access to child care through the Best Starts Child Care Subsidy. The first step application is now open to families here: http://bskchildcare.org.

The new Best Starts for Kids Child Care Subsidy represents an historic investment by  King County tax payers – $20 million each year for the next six-years to expand equitable access to child care for families. Child care keeps the county running, and investing  in child care providers and the industry as a whole, creates financial stability for working families while also contributing to financial growth in the region.

Families who are interested in the subsidy can fill out a five-minute eligibility form to see if they may qualify for help paying for child care. Families will be contacted by the end of September if they have been selected to complete the full application. Because this is new program and there may be more families interested than the program has capacity to serve, submitting an eligibility form will NOT guarantee child care funding for the family.

Families may be eligible for the subsidy if they:

  • Live in King County
  • Fall below the income cap (85 % state median income)
  • Are not eligible for the State Working Connections Child Care (WCCC) subsidy program
  • Have one or more children age 12 or younger
  • Choose a licensed child care provider
