Honorees holding awards in order of appearance: Bernie Foster, publisher of The Skanner News; Senator Margaret Carter, the first Black woman to be elected to the Oregon State Legislature; Paul Knolls, Sr., “The Mayor of Albina”; and James Posey, president of NAACP Portland, each received the 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Keeper award. The award recipients were celebrated on February 24 at Sharon Seventh-day Adventist Church in northeast Portland. Dr. Roscoe Shields, Jr., lead pastor at Sharon (pictured 2nd from the left) provided opening remarks.
