Community members interested in combating hunger are invited to join Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon's Interfaith Food and Farms Partnership to learn how to conduct a grassroots food assessment in North and Northeast neighborhoods.
The training session is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 4 atPortland'sHistoric Kenton Firehouse, 8105 N. Brandon St.
The training will be led by Sharon Thornberry, community food programs advocate for the Oregon Food Bank andpresidentofthe Community Food Security Coalition.
Participants will learn about hunger in North and Northeast Portland, simple tools for gathering information and how food assessments can lead to action. A light lunch and materials will be provided. The suggested donation for the training is $7.
The assessment, which will take place in spring and summer 2006, will help shape the partnership's food security work and build an understanding of the opportunities and challenges of selected North and Northeast Portland neighborhoods.
