Child Literacy Training Free at Local Libraries

Parents, educators and childcare providers should mark their calendars for an upcoming series of early literacy programs at The Seattle Public Library.
The programs will be at the Southwest, West Seattle, High Point and Delridge branches in September, October, November and December, and are free and open to the public.
Childcare providers can get State Training and Registration System credit by attending.
Never Too Young! Early Literacy and Babies – 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 6, Southwest Branch, 9010 35th Ave. S.W. Learn about the developmental stages of babies and how to foster early literacy with children under 12 months old.
Hey! That's Me! – Multicultural Storybooks for Every Child – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, West Seattle Branch, 2306 42nd Ave. S.W. Learn about the importance of using multicultural materials with children and how to choose and evaluate those materials.
Ready to Read! Early Literacy and Young Children – 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 15, High Point Branch, 3411 S.W. Raymond St. Learn about brain development, the six early literacy skills and how to foster those skills in children.
The More the Merrier! Interactive Read-Alouds – 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, Delridge Branch, 5423 Delridge Way. S.W. Learn how to make story times more interactive. Make singing, dancing and instruments a regular part of your stories.
The programs are for adults and child-care will not be provided. Limited free parking is available in branch parking lots.
Registration is required and begins two weeks prior to each workshop. Please call the Delridge Branch at 206-733-9125 to register for the programs, regardless of which branch they are at.
