Foreclosure Summit Nov. 22

With the impending threats of the mortgage industry progressively getting worse instead of better, Rep. Chip Shields (D-N/NE Portland) leads "There's No Place Like Home," a summit to address mortgages, foreclosures, and deceptive lending practices impacting North and Northeast Portland.
The summit takes place this Saturday, Nov. 22nd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Portland Community College Cascade Campus, Moriarity Auditorium at the corner of N. Albina and Killingsworth. 
The event is being organized by Rev. Renee' Ward. Rep. Shields is participating with Attorney General-elect John Kroger, Sen. Margaret Carter, Sen. Avel Gordly, Rep. Tina Kotek, Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish, Portland Community College, the Bureau of Housing and Community Development, Our Oregon, Oregon Law Center, U.S. Attorneys Office, Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, African American Alliance of Homeownership, Hacienda, NLE Media, The Skanner Newspaper, Portland Police Bureau, Oswego Mortgage and Law Office of Phil Goldsmith.  These and other related agencies will offer consumer protection information to current and prospective homeowners.
Rep. Shields will participate in the opening session with public officials from approximately 9 to 10 a.m.
"For too long, regulation has been too lax in the subprime mortgage industry.  We want people to come together and share their stories so that, we can create real fairness in lending that works for the people of North and Northeast Portland," said Rep. Shields.
The summit is free and open to the public.  An intimate setting is offered for consumers to share their stories, network with legislators and access civic and state agencies that provide resources to help avoid predatory lending practices and prevent foreclosure threats via education and advocacy.
Another summit is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the PCC Southeast Center Campus located at SE 82nd and Division.
