The National Newspaper Publishers Association's Black Press Week is under way.
Black Press Week takes place each year in the nation's capital, where member publishers meet with political leaders in both houses of Congress to encourage political awareness and address important issues and concerns affecting African Americans.
The festivities kicked off Wednesday, when U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., addressed NNPA members on Capitol Hill. The rest of the week's schedule includes:

• 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., luncheon meeting, Congressional Black Caucus, House Office Building
• 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., meeting with political leadership, Capitol Hill
• 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., meeting with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., Capitol Hill
