Mercy Corps will celebrate 25 years of helping the world's most vulnerable populations with the opening of the photo exhibit, "Women Before the Lens: Transformation and Hope from Around the World," presented by Art on Alberta, on Saturday, May 20.
The exhibit will be displayed at designated times and dates through July 1 at the Alberta Street office of PinPointLogic, 5018 N.E. 22nd Ave. A featured showing of the exhibit is planned during the Last Thursday on Alberta events from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 25.
The exhibit consists of more than 25 photos from the 1980s to the present taken by Mercy Corps staff members as well as professional photographers from the agency's projects worldwide. A multimedia presentation during the showings will include additional photos.
Through its years of humanitarian programming in areas affected by disaster, conflict, severe poverty and instability, Mercy Corps has learned that by improving the lives of women, the entire community improves. These photos depict women in a variety of roles: mothers, wives, sisters, homemakers, workers, educators, leaders, students and more.
The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21. Featured showings: also are planned 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25; 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 29; 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 3; and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 10.
