Obituary: Jacquelyn Dore Merriwether, December 5, 1948 – November 30, 2020

Jacquelyn Dore Merriwether died peacefully on Nov. 30, 2020 at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington, where she had been admitted a week earlier. She was 71 years old. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ann (Fontenette) Dore, father, Morris Allen Dore, Sr., sister, Patricia Marie Dore and brothers, Morris Allen Dore Jr. and Louis Jerome Dore.

Jackie was baptized at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church, Abbeville, Louisiana, and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic school. She graduated from James A. Herod high school where she played flute in the school band.

Jacquelyn Dore Merriwether, December 5, 1948 – November 30, 2020She attended the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, and the University of Washington, Seattle. She later worked at UW’s Graduate School of Social Work, Admissions Office, where she met her husband-to-be Clyde Merriwether.

Clyde describes his wife as a loving mother, true friend, leader, fantastic wife, and a genuinely good person with a giving heart. Everyone responded to her outgoing, engaging personality. She had friends from all walks of life and was an avid and eclectic reader, primarily of fiction—she always had a book in her hand. She was a lover of music and art and was known to get lost in museums. Her family always looked forward to her creole gumbo, barbecued ribs and trifle.

Jackie and Clyde were married on Aug. 2, 1980 in Seattle, and made their home in Bothell, Washington.

Survivors include her husband, Clyde; sons Jamal Dore Allen and Christopher Ryan Merriwether, Bothell; brother, Adam Frazier Dore (Terry), Gueydan, Louisiana; Bobbie Dore Foster (Bernie) Portland, Oregon and 10 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for family members will be determined at a later date.
